Final Stats

LAREDO, Texas - Sophomore hurler Marty Bigham finished what Jerry Hawkins started Sunday afternoon, holding Oklahoma Panhandle State scoreless through four innings of work on Monday, giving the Texas A&M International University baseball team a 4-1 win and a series sweep over the Aggies.

Hawkins picked up his first win of the season, while Bigham has yet to allow a run this season.

With the win the Dustdevils improve to 5-1 on the season, as the team prepares for its first road trip of the season at Arkansas Fort-Smith.

"I thought we threw the ball really well today and played good defense behind our pitchers" said Head Coach Chad Porter. "The way we won this series will really benefit us as we move forward. We were down a couple times and were able to fight our way back in each time - winning like that teaches our guys to grind no matter what the situation. We're improving each time we step out on the field and we're 5-1, I don't think we could ask for much more right now."

The Dustdevils took an early lead Sunday afternoon thanks to a two-out single from Korey Gosselin plating Ramon Sandoval who reached on an error by the center fielder. After Will Wurth drew a walk in the second, Austin Voros blasted his first homerun of the season over the right field wall to give TAMIU a 3-0 lead.

OPSU got on the board in the third after Colton McKithan took first after being hit by a pitch, then advancing to second on a passed ball. Two batters later Jordan Bernal singled into left scoring McKithan for the Aggies only run of the game

The Dustdevils answered in the fourth thanks to a single from Voros and an error by the OPSU right fielder, allowing Wurth to come around who led the inning off with a double.

Bigham came on in relief in the sixth and allowed just four hits before getting the final strikeout to put away the Aggies.

The Dustdevils road series versus Arkansas Fort-Smith gets underway February 17 with games at 12 and 3 p.m. and concludes February 18 with the final game at 12 p.m.
