Final Stats
FORT SMITH, Arkansas - After struggling to get their offense going early in the game, the Texas A&M International University baseball team scored six runs in the final four innings to top Arkansas Fort-Smith 6-4 Saturday afternoon at Crowder Field.
TAMIU trailed 3-0 through five before coming alive in the sixth. Austin Voros led-off with a walk before advancing to second on a single from Korey Gosselin. Ramon Sandoval moved Voros over to third reaching on a fielder's choice, before Alejandro Salas plated two runs with a double into left field.
The lions answered with a run in the bottom half of the sixth, but the Dustdevils came right back in the seventh scoring three runs on four hits to take a 5-4 lead. Voros scored Will Wurth on a two-out double, followed by a single from Gosselin to push Voros across. Sandoval singled up the middle to keep the inning going and Gosselin scored on an error by Lions left fielder.
Gosselin picked up his third RBI of the game in the ninth, scoring lead-off man Jeff Anderson on another two out hit to give the Dustdevils a 6-4 lead.
Danny Navarro picked up the win for TAMIU improving to 1-0, striking out six and allowing no earned runs through 3.2 innings of work. Jerry Hawkins started the game for TAMIU, giving up only one earned run and striking out five.
With the win the Dustdevils improve to 6-3 on the season, as they get set to step out of conference play to host Texas A&M Kingsville on Tuesday, February 21. First pitch is set for 2 pm at Jorge Haynes Field in Laredo.
