WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Texas A&M International University softball team had a day they would like to forget, dropping back to back lopsided games to Cameron University and Midwestern State University.
Cameron pitcher Carrie Dilks tossed a one-hitter to hand the Dustdevils an 11-0 loss in game one and Midwestern scored 11 unanswered to take game two from TAMIU 11-3.
The two losses drop the Dustdevils to 4-15 on the season as the team has lost nine of its last ten games.
In the opening game, the Aggies combined for 15 total hits and two homeruns, while the Dustdevils only hit came from freshman first baseman Cassandra Deleon. TAMIU trailed 2-0 after two innings, but gave up four runs in the third and five in the sixth as the Aggies won the game via the mercy rule.
Versus Midwestern State in the late game, the Dustdevils charged out to a 3-0 lead thanks to homeruns from Rochelle Nash and Regina Morales in the first inning. The Mustangs were able to answer and then some, scoring three runs in the first, two runs in the second and third and four more in the fourth to put the game out of reach.
Mariena Gallardo took the loss in game one slipping to 1-5, while Sarah Johnson picked up the loss in game two dropping to 2-3.
The Dustdevils will return to action February 24 as the team heads to Denton, Texas for day one of the Texas Women's Tournament. TAMIU will take on Pittsburgh State in their opening game with the first pitch set for 2:15 pm.
