Rough Start for Dustdevils Softball

Feb. 3, 2012

Final Stats

San Antonio, Texas - It wasn't the start the defending Heartland Conference Champions were looking for Thursday afternoon, as the Texas A&M International University Softball Team dropped their opening two games of the season at the St. Mary's Invitational.

The Dustdevils fell to Tarleton State in their season opener 3-1, followed by a 4-0 loss to Incarnate Word in game two.

"We faced some tough pitching today and we did a lot of good things, we just couldn't get runs across," said Head Coach Scott Libby. "We did well in the circle - Kyndall Reaves nearly threw a complete game for us versus Tarleton and we had only one error in the books for both games. Our freshman pitchers came in and did a great job, we just have to have more timely hitting."

Versus Tarleton TAMIU struggled to get the bats going inning, picking up only one hit through six innings. The Dustdevils managed three hits in the seventh inning, but were only able to pick one run.

In their second game the Dustdevils were much better at the plate amassing seven hits, but out of 11 total base runners 10 were left stranded. Freshman Sarah Johnson started game two going four and one-third inning, before being relieved by freshmen Monica Cavazos and Katrina Zamorano.

The Dustdevils will look for their first win of the season tomorrow morning in day two of the St. Mary's Invitational taking on Eastern New Mexico at 10 a.m. and Abilene Christian at 2 p.m.
