Final Stats

LAREDO, Texas - The Texas A&M International University Softball Team split at the second day of the St. Mary's College Classic in San Antonio topping Eastern New Mexico 5-4 and falling to Abilene Christian 4-0.

Sophomore Kyndall Reaves picked up the win for the Dustdevils in game one improving her record to 1-1, while freshman Monica Cavazos picked up her first save of the season. Reaves went four and two thirds innings giving up four runs on ten hits with three strike outs.

The Dustdevils got on the board quickly in the opening game when senior Sam Carrillo, who went 2-3 in the game, doubled to right scoring lead-off hitter Rochele Nash. Two batters later, Lauren Tucker gave TAMIU a 3-0 lead plating Carrillo and Adriana Gonzalez on a two-out single to right center.

Tucker picked up her second RBI of the game in the third, scoring Alexis Gonzalez on a sac fly to right field giving TAMIU a 4-0 advantage. ENMU answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the third, before TAMIU struck again in the fifth, with Adriana Gonzalez scoring Alexis Gonzalez on a grounder back to the pitcher. Once again Eastern New Mexico would cut into TAMIU's lead scoring two more runs in the bottom of the half of the fifth, but the Dustdevils pitching would close strong locking down the 5-4 victory.

In game two, TAMIU couldn't get the bats going as they managed only five hits and zero runs versus Abilene Christian. Freshman Mariena Gallardo went the Distance in the circle for the Dustdevils, pitching all seven innings, giving up four runs on ten hits. The Dustdevils slip to 1-3 on the season and will conclude the St. Mary's Classic with two more games on Saturday. TAMIU will face off against Angelo State at 10 a.m. and Cameron University at 4 p.m.
