Baseball Shutout in Series Finale versus UTPB

March 24, 2012

Final Stats

ODESSA - UTPB pitcher Jacob Ricossa put on a dominating performance Saturday afternoon shutting out the Texas A&M International University baseball team for the second time in three games, as the Falcons completed the series sweep over the Dustdevils with a 3-0 win.

The conference loss was TAMIU's sixth in a row, dropping the Dustdevils to 7-14 in conference play. Where the Dustdevils stand in the conference standings is still yet to be determined, as the series between St. Edward's and Arkansas Fort-Smith was pushed to a Sunday start because of unplayable field conditions.

Ricossa frustrated Dustdevil hitters all game long, taking a no hitter into the fifth before Will Wurth finally broke through with a single into left field. TAMIU batters combined to go 5-30 at the plate with junior Jaron Shimmel the only Dustdevil to record more than one hit.

Junior Jerry Hawkins dropped to 1-5 on the season giving up five runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and a walk.

The Falcons scored their first run of the game in the top of the first when Brian Brademan plated Ryne Head on a sacrifice fly. Fabian Rivera gave UTPB a 2-0 lead in the sixth, scoring Arturo Carrera with an RBI single into right center and Brademan made it 3-0 game in the seventh, scoring Head on an RBI single to right after Head reached on a walk.

The Dustdevils will step out of conference play on Tuesday, March 27 hosting UT-Brownsville at home, before returning to conference play Friday, March 30 traveling to Goodwell, Oklahoma to battle Oklahoma Panhandle State. First pitch for Tuesday's game is set for 2 p.m. at Jorge Haynes Field.
