Volleyball Splits In Day One of Tourney

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FT. LAUDERDALE, FL - The Texas A&M International University volleyball team opened the Nova Southeastern University Invitational with an opening round split, losing to Lynn University 3-1 then rebounding with a 3-1 win over host Nova Southeastern University.

The Dustdevils took the opening set versus Lynn 25-22, then proceeded to drop three straight (17-25, 21-25, 14-25) to fall to 0-1 on the season.

"Unfortunately we didn't stay true to TAMIU volleyball," said Head Coach Marlon Sano.  "We played decent in the first game, then failed to stay with our training and played out of character the rest of the way.  The efforts were good, but our process was not very good and Lynn was a very good team."

In game two the Dustdevils split the first two sets with Nova Southeastern (25-21, 17-25), before rallying to win the final two games (25-20, 25-12).

"We regrouped after this morning and got back to who we are and our style of play," said Coach Sano.  "We played hard and fearless - winning all of the scramble and effort plays which allowed us to control the momentum.  We were able to break down Nova to win the match."

The Dustdevils return Saturday morning to face Wheeling Jesuit University at 8 a.m., then conclude tournament play with a 12 p.m. game versus Merrimack College.
