Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener

Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TX - The Texas A&M International University women's soccer team opened up regular season play Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 loss to no. 16 Central Oklahoma.

Stephanie Fleig scored just three minutes in to the match for the Bronchos, before Ciara Mitchell added another goal in the 71st minute to put the game out of reach.

Despite the loss TAMIU Head Coach Claudio Arias says he saw significant improvement out of his girls.

"We wanted to play a better game than we did last year against UCO and we did that.  Two mistakes cost us this game but we fought until the end.  Our attitude is the right one and we will be ready for St. Mary's."

UCO outshot the Dustdevils in the game 12-7, but the two teams were even at six shots apiece on goal.  Paige Johnson and Jessica Parker each contributed two shots for TAMIU, while Sol Medina, Alyssa Perez and Sam Zerelli each finished with one.

The Dustdevils now return home for their conference opener versus rival St. Mary's on Wednesday September 5..  The Rattlers are also coming off a loss at the hands of Central Oklahoma, dropping a game versus the Bronchos on Friday 3-1.

Last season St. Mary's swept TAMIU in the regular season winning by scores of 4-0 and 2-0.  Kick off for Wednesday's game is at 5 p.m.
