AUSTIN, Texas – In search of their second Heartland Conference victory on Saturday, the visiting Texas A&M International volleyball team would have to wait. The Dustdevils were taken down by their host and current conference fourth-place occupant St. Edward’s, 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-17).

The match was one-sided throughout, with the Dustdevils failing to take control or the match’s lead until the third and final set. That final set saw four lead changes, but the Hilltoppers stood strongest the longest. The first set saw TAMIU tie the score only once in the first set, three times in the second and a game-high six times in the third.

TAMIU (2-19, 1-11 Heartland) was led by Toriana Goods’ 11 points (10 kills, 2 blocks), but no other Dustdevils marked the match with more than five points. Four Dustdevils – Lizzie Prieto, Paige Criss, Rosebud Guthrie and Alex Ciszek – tallied 4.5 points apiece.

Prieto had a season-low 21 assists, while the Dustdevils had only 26 as a team. Desiree Ortiz dug out 18 balls, while the team completed 47 total digs.

TAMIU returns to action with a non-conference match on Oct. 29 against Texas A&M-Kingsville at 7 p.m.
