Box Score GOODWILL, Okla. – Texas A&M International doubled its season win total and cemented its first conference victory in one dominating performance on Friday against Oklahoma Panhandle State. The visiting Dustdevils swept the Aggies, 3-0 (25-15, 25-15,25-9) to improve to 2-13 (1-6 Heartland Conference); OPSU falls to 3-12 (0-8) with the loss.
The Dustdevils, playing in their fourth road game in 11 days, shared the offensive wealth. No Dustdevil recorded more than nine points as an individual, but four scored more than five points and eight Dustdevils found themselves on the scoresheet. Toriana Goods (7 kills, 2 aces, 3 digs) led TAMIU with nine points, followed by team captain Miranda Pratt’s (6 kills, 2 blocks, 3 assists) 7.5 points and Alex Ciszek’s (4 kills, 3 aces) seven points.
Paige Criss (6.5 points, 5 kills, 3 blocks), Lizzie Prieto (4.5 points, 3 kills, 3 blocks, 3 digs), Koral Wright (3 points, 3 aces), Desiree Ortiz (2 points, 14 digs) and Rosebud Guthrie (1.5 points, 1 kill, 1 block) each fueled the TAMIU offense. Prieto continued leading the Dustdevils as the team’s hingepoint from defense to offense, recording 15 of TAMIU’s 23 total assists.
As a team, TAMIU hit for a .292 percentage to provide a new season high while holding OPSU to an anemic -0.27 percentage. The one-sided match saw only six score-tying plays and only two lead changes.
The Dustdevils will look to continue building momentum as they return to the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building on Oct. 10 to host Dallas Baptist in the annual Dig Pink Game to raise breast cancer awareness.
October will see the Dustdevils play four games at home, with Heartland matchups against DBU, the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith (Oct. 12), Lubbock Christian (Oct. 17) and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (Oct. 19).
