LAREDO, Texas – The 4th annual La Posada Classic, hosted by Texas A&M International, saved it's biggest bang for last. The Dustdevils flexed their muscles in a 38-point blowout of Hillsdale Free Will Baptist in Saturday's second and final matchup.
The nearly 40-point mark bested Friday's 33-point victory by the University of Texas of the Permian Basin over HFWBU.
Senior high-flyer Jordan Clark led all Dustdevils (2-3, 0-0 Heartland Conference) with 23 points, matching the number on his jersey, slamming home a pair of iron-rattling dunks. The Dustdevils produced three other double-digit point totals, with two coming from starters Johnel Grey(19) and Vadel Faniel (16). Curtis Trotter roared with 10 points as well.
Faniel, an Antelope Valley College transfer, was a monster on the boards to grab a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The 6-foot-7-inch forward leads all Dustdevils with 32 rebounds through five games.
The game saw nearly identical halves, with TAMIU netting 46 and 49 points, respectively, and the Saints scoring 27 and 30 points, respectively.
As a team, the Dustdevils silenced the Saints to only 11.1 percent from the 3-point line while shooting a solid 34.8 percent from long range. TAMIU tacked on a 53.4 percent from the field and 69.2 from the free throw line in the victory.
In the early game, the University of Texas of the Permian Basin defeated Arlington Baptist 92-81.
TAMIU returns to action on Nov. 22 at the Kingsville Classic, hosted by Texas A&M- Kingsville, against Cameron University and then TAMUK on Nov. 23.
