LAREDO, Texas – The Heartland Conference championship has returned to Texas A&M International for the third time in four years, constructing the conference's most convincing dynasty of the last six seasons.

With Monday's 3-0 victory over McMurry, TAMIU clinched its third crown since going back-to-back in 2010-11. The Dustdevils missed a fourth title to St. Edward's off a miracle strike with under two minutes to go in 2012.

The walloping began at the TAMIU Soccer Complex – where the Dustdevils finished an undefeated 3-0-1 in Heartland play – with a brace by freshman forward Nick Coronado. The local product and United High alumnus spit shined his first career goal in the 47th minute.

The innovative side-volley strike served as his first career goal at TAMIU. He found a ricocheted header from fellow freshman forward Ryan Hodgson bouncing hip-high before launching his short-hop howler past McMurry's defenseless Neil O'Sullivan.

Coronado's second goal fell exactly 20 minutes later, in the 77th minute, when another freshman forward – Funcia Kenneh – fed him a crossing through ball with no one but O'Sullivan to beat. Beat him he did, putting the Dustdevils ahead by two with 13 minutes left.

Laredoans shined throughout, as Alexander High alumnus and fellow local product Eduardo "Wayo" Gonzalez struck an exclamation point on the championship afternoon with an 81st minute runner. Gonzalez was fed a goal kick by senior keeper Jesus "Chuy" Cisneros.

Gonzalez burned the War Hawks' back line and chipped O'Sullivan for the final goal of 2013, his second of the season.

The match was utterly dominated by the Dustdevils, who hammered 29 shots – 12 on goal – and saw only Jovany Macias and Adrian Elicerio earn yellow cards. McMurry shot only eight times, threatening Cisneros' goal only five times.

TAMIU finishes is Heartland Conference championship season 7-1-1 and 9-6-2 overall. The Dustdevils witnessed the final games of its senior class, including captain Arturo Gutierrez, Cisneros, Elicerio, Jaime Cano, Yamin Olavarrieta, Walter Anoruo, Joan Vallejo and Diego Manzano-Cano.
