SAN DIEGO, Calif. – After winning the first game of their season, the Dustdevils lost the next six in losses to Azusa Pacific and California State-Dominguez Hills on Sept. 6 in the Seaside Invitational.
In the tournament's second and final day, on Saturday, the Dustdevils (0-4) began a repeat performance. They downed California State-Stanislaus in the first game before dropping the next six, falling 3-1 to Stanislaus (11-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-20) before being swept, 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, ), by tournament-host Point Loma.
TAMIU will play five consecutive away matches before opening at home on Sept. 19 against Heartland Conference rival St. Edward's.

The Dustdevils began the day's action with a purpose after dropping the season's first two matches, but a lacking hitting percentage (.107) once again stunted TAMIU's progress on the court. The first set saw TAMIU land 14 kills with only four errors, but its 36 total attacks were the fewest of its day.
Senior captain Miranda Pratt was the only Dustdevil with double-digit kills on the day, registering a team-high 13 for a team-high .360 hitting percentage. Lizzie Prieto dished 35 of the team's 42 assists in the match and Desiree Ortiz led the Dustdevils with 33 digs – more than double the next closest Dustdevil (Prieto, 14).
Pratt also led TAMIU with 14.5 points, followed by Alex Ciszek's 9.5 while both Paige Criss and Toriana Goods recorded eight.
The match saw nine ties occur, with five coming in the pulse-pounding third set; there were six lead changes, with a game-high three coming in the punch-counterpunch third set.

The Dustdevils' West Coast struggles continued throughout the Seaside Invitational, with hitting percentage (.128) that left much to be desired.
Goods and Ciszek tied for the team lead in points scored with nine each, with the pair ranking Nos. 1-2 with nine and seven kills, respectively. Criss was the leading hitter, boasting a .250 percentage as an individual, while Prieto again led the Dustdevils with 22 assists and 17 digs. Ortiz (15) and Ciszek (10) also recorded double-digit digs.
Pratt led defensively with three blocks as the team fell to 0-4 on the season.
