LAREDO, Texas – Two of the Heartland Conference's top teams met at the Texas A&M International University Soccer Complex on Saturday, as the Dustdevils (4-4-3, 2-1-0 Heartland) fell to Lubbock Christian, 2-0. With the loss, the Dustdevils are just a match behind both St. Edward's and St. Mary's – who are 3-0-0 in conference play – for the top spot in the league.TAMIU will play host in four of its next five matches, presenting at least a comfortable series of matches with home field advantage.
On Saturday, the Dustdevils were doomed by a pair of punches at the death of the first half. The goals came in a span of two minutes, forcing TAMIU to chase the match throughout the second half.
TAMIU launched six shots – two falling on frame – including a potential match-altering rattling of the crossbar by senior midfielder Sol Medina in the 58th minute. Had it gone in, the Dustdevils would have halved the Lady Chaps' lead with the wind at their backs.
TAMIU goalkeeper Chelsea Knaack completed nine saves off 16 Lady Chap shots – 11 were on target.
The Dustdevils return to action on Oct. 13 at noon to host the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
