ODESSA, Texas – In just their second true road match of the season, Texas A&M International University cemented a positive result – via a scoreless draw – at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin on Monday. The 110-minute affair presented the Dustdevils (1-2-3, 0-0-0 Heartland) their third match to extend through both overtime periods.
The Dustdevils bullied the Falcons in every statistical category other than the score line. Through the 110-minute match, TAMIU unleashed 19 shots with 12 falling on frame to force UTPB goalkeeper Ebony Campbell into a dozen saves. UTPB shot only nine times – five on target.
The Dustdevils were victimized in the match, having 22 fouls committed by the Falcons.
"A 0-0 double-overtime draw is an improvement after two consecutive losses," TAMIU associate head coach Felipe Arias said. "We dominated the entire game – with more threats and way more shots – and we were unlucky five times with the ball hitting the post.
"But overall, it was a huge improvement from our whole team considering all the circumstances."
The Dustdevils were led by forward Kim Garcia's four shots (3 on goal), while senior midfielder Sol Medina fired three shots and Paula Arias, Crystal Zapien, Laura Twinem and Karina Garcia lifted two attempts each. Four others took one shot.
Dustdevils goalkeeper Chelsea Knaack maintained her second cleansheet of the season with four saves.
The draw was the first ever knot between the Dustdevils and Falcons; TAMIU is 9-11-1 all-time against UTPB.
The Dustdevils return to action in their third consecutive road match, at St. Mary's on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m., before returning to the TAMIU Soccer Complex on Oct. 11 to host Lubbock Christian.
