FRISCO, Texas – In their second neutral-site meeting of the year, neither Texas A&M International University nor Ouachita Baptist could gain the better of each other on Sunday. The Dustdevils (4-3-1, 0-0-0 Heartland) dominated the Tigers with nearly twice as many shots fired (23-12), but the match ended in a 1-all draw after 110 minutes.
"I thought our boys played well and were the superior team," TAMIU coach Claudio Arias said. "Unfortunately for whoever the better team is, matches are won by scoring goals, and we missed too many."
In the teams' two meetings this season, the Dustdevils outscored the Tigers 4-2, but it was Eduardo Serrano that equalized the match with his first goal of the season after OBU took an initial lead 55th minute. Serrano's scintillating strike secured TAMIU's positive result in the 71st minute after the Tigers failed a clearance directly onto Serrano's firing feet.
TAMIU started Chris Biddulph in goal, seeing him complete all of regulation and the pair of 10-minute overtimes with just the one goal allowed. He was challenged to make just one save, as the Dustdevils backline silenced the Tigers into just two shots on target.
The Dustdevils continue their stretch of five consecutive road matches with their Heartland Conference opener at Newman on Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. TAMIU returns home on Oct. 11 to host Lubbock Christian.
