LUBBOCK, Texas (October 3rd, 2015) -- The Texas A&M International Men's Soccer team traveled to take on Lubbock Christian for their second Heartland Conference match on Saturday afternoon. Through multiple lightning delays and poor weather conditions, the Dustdevils fell short with a final match score of 1-2. They are now 1-1 in Heartland Conference play, and 3-6 Overall.
After an initial 30 minute weather delay, the first half featured a 45 minutes of action that was not accounted for in scoring. TAMIU had 4 corner kick opportunities, and out-shot LCU on net with 2 chances in the first half.
In the midst of halftime, the weather in Lubbock generated an additional 90 minute delay due to lightning.
Upon resuming the second half, Junior Tayeb Ahmadi drew first blood for TAMIU in the 62nd minute by tucking a pass from Junior Abraham Lopez behind the Chaps keeper. The first goal was Ahmadi's third of the season, as well as Lopez's third assist of the season.
In hard-fought play, the Chaps rallied back to put two unanswered goals past TAMIU's Miguel Lucio in the 70th and 84th minutes. The 1-2 final fell in favor of LCU. Lucio faced 26 shots (9 SOG) from the Chaps, and made 7 total saves in the match.
The Dustdevils will continue play on the road, next by traveling to Canyon, Texas for a non-conference rematch against West Texas A&M on October 6th. TAMIU previously was defeated by the Buffs, 3-4, at home on September 5th.
