FRISCO, Texas (October 31, 2015) -- The Texas A&M International Men's Soccer team clinched their spot in the 2015 Heartland Conference playoff tournament with a 3-2 double overtime win on Saturday. This will be the Dustdevils sixth appearance in the playoffs within the Heartland Conference tournament during the last seven years.
The Dustdevils started hot in the first half to set the tone of the match. Sophomore Aaron Zuniga beat the Patriots goalkeeper in the 22nd minute to score his first goal of the 2015 campaign. TAMIU would keep the 1-0 lead as time expired in the first half.
During the 59th minute, Junior Tayeb Ahmadi put the Dustdevils ahead 2-0 with his 5th goal of the season. The TAMIU lead would be cut in half in the 67th minute, with the Patriots' first goal of the contest. DBU would go on to net an equalizer at 89:37, forcing overtime.
In overtime, both teams would play without scoring in the first ten minutes. As the second overtime began, the fate of the Dustdevils' post season was on the line.
In the 104th minute, Tayeb Ahmadi was given a go-ahead pass by Ryan Hodgson toward the Patriots net. Ahmadi beat the DBU goalkeeper for a second time of the night, sealing the victory for the Dustdevils. They would take the win in a 3-2, double overtime victory.
The Dustdevils appearance in the Heartland Conference Championship Tournament will take place in semi-finals on Thursday, November 5th at St. Edward's in Austin, Texas.
