LAREDO, Texas (November 14, 2015) -- The Texas A&M International Volleyball team (9-13, 8-8 HC) concluded their 2015 season with a 0-3 loss to the Arkansas Fort Smith Lions (24-3, 16-0 HC) on Saturday afternoon. (17-25, 21-25, 14-25)
A tough matchup was expected for TAMIU against the four-peat Heartland Conference title Lions, who went undefeated in conference play during the 2015 season. UAFS dominated the court to result in the Dustdevils 0-3 loss, as TAMIU hit a low .089% as a team.
In the first set, TAMIU allowed for 6 unanswered UAFS points which resulted in the 17-25 defeat. The Dustdevils turned their frustration into motivation in the second set, holding on to compete with the Lions. However, despite their efforts, UAFS came away with the victory (21-25). Set three was controlled completely by the Lions, holding the Dustdevils to a .000% hitting percentage as a team. UAFS built a lead over the Dustdevils by 12 points early on to aid in their 14-25 set three victory.
TAMIU leaves a legacy in 2015 by collecting more wins than their previous two seasons combined. The Dustdevils finished .500 (8-8) in Heartland Conference play for the first time since 2012, matching their efforts of .500, at 7-7 in Conference play.
During the 2015 campaign, Senior
Lizzie Prieto led TAMIU with 764 assists. Freshman
Ramey Gardner topped the Dustdevils chart for kills with 265. Returning JuniorÂ
Samantha Gonzalez took the lead for blocks with 56.
