Dustdevils capture fifth-straght with 98-56 win over Southwestern Adventist

LAREDO, Texas (December 5, 2015) -- The Texas A&M International University Men's Basketball team extended their winning streak to five with a thrilling 98-56 victory over the Southwestern Adventist Knights on Saturday evening. The Dustdevils continue their undefeated record at home with the win, producing a 5-2 overall record. With the victory, TAMIU has swept SAU in season play, taking a 6-0 record over the Knights all-time.

The Dustdevils started with a lead and refused to return it. TAMIU held strong over all 40 minutes of play, never allowing a tie score or SAU to take control. Over the course of the contest, the Dustdevils largest lead was in their final moments, as the 42-point victory held through the last buzzer.

In speaking about the team's victory, Weakley encouraged the continuing growth of his team by commenting, "I thought we were focused coming into this game.  There was more defensive consistency than the last time we played them.  We are still a long ways from where we want and need to be but were growing every game."

Juniors Denzel Bellot and Jake Eynon shined for TAMIU by topping the team in points (Bellot - 29, Eynon - 14). Bellot's 11-13 statement at the line and team-leading 26 minutes assisted in the Dustdevils road to success.

Head Coach Bryan Weakley noted the leadership of his juniors by saying,"Our juniors took some strides today as players.  We asked them to give more and they responded.  We are looking forward to a great week of practice."

The Dustdevils will continue practicing for the upcoming conference games ahead in their season. TAMIU will get their last taste of non-conference competition on Saturday, December 12th when Texas A&M - Kingsville visits Laredo for a 3pm contest. The Dustdevils will look for a rematch after taking a 53-56 loss to the Javelinas in Kingsville on November 15th.
