TAMIU Drops to St. Edward’s On the Road, 42-64

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas A&M International University Dustdevils (11-12, 7-8 Heartland) drop to the St. Edward University's Hilltoppers (14-8, 8-6 Heartland) Saturday afternoon, as they had an off shooting day.
 
TAMIU shot an overall 27.1 percent from the field, and 11.5 percent from the free throw line, troubling to compete with the Hilltoppers' 44.4 percent and 30.0 percent.
 
TAMIU and St. Edward's saw good competition in the beginning of the game, as the score was within reach of either team for the first 15 minutes of the first half. Though, towards the end of the first half, the Hilltoppers started increasing their margin, going into the half nine points ahead of the Dustdevils.
 
The Hilltoppers came out strong in the second half, and increased their lead on the Dustdevils throughout the remainder of the game – concluding the game with a score of 42-64 Hilltoppers.
 
Junior Jessica Prieto had the Dustdevils' game-high 15 points, along with two rebounds and one assist. Prieto also led the Dustdevils in blocks and steals, recording three apiece.
 
TAMIU's junior, Keiona Mathews, scored nine points, and senior Alexis Thomas scored seven.
 
Senior Bezait Anbesse had the team's game-high in rebounds with six. Senior Stella Ghazarian led the team in assists, with three.
 
The Dustdevils only have three games (all conference) left in the 2014-15 season, and will take on TAMIU rival, St. Mary's University (13-10, 7-8 Heartland) on Thursday at the TAMIU Kinesiology Convocation Building. TAMIU and St. Mary's are currently tied with a Heartland Conference record of 7-8. The two will battle it out for positioning in the post season tournament.
