Dustdevils Round Up Season Against Lubbock Christian

LAREDO, Texas – The Texas A&M International University Dustdevils (16-11, 13-7 Heartland) dropped their last game of the season against the Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals (12-16, 7-13 Heartland) Saturday afternoon at the TAMIU KCB.
 
Junior Anthony Alston recorded his career-high 27 points going 10-17 (58.8 %) from the field. Alston stole the ball five times, turning into fast break points for the Dustdevils. Alston also tacked on four assists and four rebounds for the Dustdevils.
 
Also leading the Dustdevils this afternoon were senior Montrice McKnight and junior Terrell Funches who each scored 12 points against the Chaps. McKnight recorded two steals, and Funches had one.
 
Also adding on points to the scoreboard was a trio of seniors – Vadal Faniel with 12, and William Wise and Curtis Trotter with four each.
 
TAMIU's leading rebounder of the afternoon was junior David Horst with seven.
 
The Dustdevils had a rough first half as the Dustdevils fell behind and trailed the Chaps by 20 at halftime. Though, TAMIU pulled through and got within three points with 1:40 to go in the second half, as TAMIU went on a shooting spree with shots from Alston, Wise, McKnight, and Funches.
 
Despite the comeback from the Chap's largest lead of 26, it was not enough to seal the deal and take the win, as TAMIU committed fouls within the last minute, allotting to free throws which Lubbock Christian put to good use. The final score ended up being 74-67.
 
TAMIU will conclude the season with a 16-11 overall record, as they will graduate five seniors (Faniel, McKnight, Wise, Patrick Carlson, and Trotter).
