Box Score 4 DENTON, Texas (September 5, 2015) – The Texas A&M International Volleyball squad opened their season at the 2015 Hilton Garden Inn Classic, hosted by Texas Women's University, in Denton on Friday. The Dustdevils returned win-less with a 0-4 tournament record.
September 4th:
The first match against Arkansas Tech resulted in a 1-3 loss. With a young program, and only two returning players (Samantha Gonzalez, Lizzie Prieto), the Dustdevils fought hard through the first two sets. Sets 1 and 2 were decided in favor of Arkansas Tech: 25-20 and 25-22, respectively. The third set proved the grit of the Lady Dustdevils. After a timeout with the scoring of 25-26, they pushed through to take the win 28-26. TAMIU was lead in kills by Freshman Ramey Gardner, totaling 21. Junior Cassandra Hernandez tallied the most digs, with 20 total.

The second match against University of Colorado - Colorado Springs followed a similar fashion as the first, resulting in a 1-3 loss. The first set was point-for-point, the Dustdevils never falling more than three points behind until the final score: 21-25. The second set also fell in favor of the Mountain Lions, 14-25. The third set again showcased the strength of TAMIU's resilience, as they took the victory with a 25-18 score. UCCS capitalized on their lead and finished the match in the fourth set, 21-25. The Dustdevils out-blocked UCCS, 14 to 9.

September 5th:
The Lady Dustdevils had their work cut out for them leading into the second day of tournament play at 0-2. The first match of the day, third of the tournament, against Harding mirrored the efforts of the previous day. Sets 1 and 2 fell in favor of the Bison, both with scores of 22-25. The first set featured consistent Dustdevils leads, 5-1 and 10-3 marking the largest gaps, until the Bison took the win. The second set started with a quick Dustdevils lead, that turned into another Bisons domination. The third set, the Dustdevils strong suit, held true, as they took the win 25-17.,Freshman Ramey Gardner lead the game in Aces, with 5. Junior Cassandra Hernandez tallied the most digs for the second time in the weekend, with 16 total. Juniors Samantha Gonzalez and Paula Mrowczynska lead their positions by posting a,.308 and .273 hitting percentage, respectively.

The final match of the weekend showcased the best efforts of the Dustdevils. Opponent Arkansas-Monticello opened up the game with a win in the first set, 16-25. Sets 2 and 3 were back-and-forth with the Blossoms. Set 2 featured a Dustdevils domination late in the set to seal the win. In set 3, TAMIU came back from a 7 point deficit for the win, which put the Dustdevils ahead in sets, 2-1.The Blossoms took control in Sets 4 and 5, which gave them a 3-2 final win.

Freshman Ramey Gardener was named to the All-Tournament Team, serving as the only representative from TAMIU.
The Dustdevils next game is their home opener against Lubbock Christian University at 7pm in the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
