LAREDO, Texas (January 7, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team treated hometown fans Thursday evening by defeating Rogers State 73-64. The Dustdevils move to 3-2 in Heartland Conference play (6-7 overall) while dealing the Hillcats their first conference loss this season (8-3, 3-1 HC).
As the Dustdevils fought off a second half comeback, the Hillcats drained a mid-range jumpshot with just one second remaining on the clock to send the contest into overtime. The Dustdevils connected on all three of their three-point field goal attempts in the overtime period, while shooting 8-10 from the free-throw line to outscore the Hillcats 19-10.
TAMIU took advantage of Hillcat turnovers by scoring 11 points after forcing 17 turnovers. The Dustdevils battled all night for the rebound, scoring 14 second chance points and 20 points in the paint. TAMIU shot 73% from the foul line scoring 19 points from the stripe.

Jessica Prieto lead the offensive charge for the Dustdevils scoring 31 points while shooting 4-6 from the foul line. Senior
Keiona Mathews added 25 points and eight rebounds en route to the win.
Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson commented on the team effort saying, "We beat a good team tonight in Rogers State and I am very proud of our team. We took a step forward from a mental toughness standpoint. We will enjoy the win tonight but tomorrow our focus will be on Fort Smith."
The Dustdevils resume Heartland Conference play Saturday afternoon against Arkansas Fort-Smith in the TAMIU KCB. Tip-off will be at 1pm CST.
