Crusaders deal TAMIU loss in final non-conference matchup

LAREDO, Texas (December 29, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team hosted Mary Hardin-Baylor in the TAMIU KCB on Thursday night. The Dustdevils were dealt a 52-70 loss, falling to 1-11 overall.

Despite a late rally in the fourth quarter, the Dustdevils were unable to out-shoot the Crusaders at home.

First Quarter:
The first quarter saw TAMIU score nine straight points behind the arc. Hannah Beede drained two from deep in just over two minutes of action. The Crusaders would come back with six first-quarter three's. After 10 minutes of play, TAMIU trailed 18-22.

Second Quarter:
TAMIU fell behind in the second quarter as the Crusader defense held the Dustdevils to just two points. The Crusader's 17 opened a 39-20 lead after 20 minutes of play. Beede led all scorers with nine first-half points.

Third Quarter:
Neither team would break 15 points in the third quarter, the Crusaders put up 14, while the Dustdevils scored seven. Joanna Perez would score four of TAMIU's seven points in the third.

Fourth Quarter:
TAMIU came out strong in the fourth quarter, out-scoring the Crusaders 25-17. Despite the late run, TAMIU was unable to make up the early deficit.

Perez and Beede would combine for 30 points, scoring 15 each. Rosebrooke Hunt picked up a game-high 13 rebounds, adding five points. Nayiri Aslanian finished the night with nine points and five rebounds.

Head Coach Jeff Caha commented, "I thought we came out fast and aggressive like we wanted to in the first quarter. Shooting 1-17 from the field in the second quarter got us, I was pretty pleased with the shots we were getting but to only score two points in a quarter makes it tough. We had good intensity in the second half and we put together a couple of runs. When you dig that big of a hole, it is tough to overcome. Fortunately we have a couple days of practice and then play LCU on Monday."

The Dustdevils are back in action on Monday, January 2. TAMIU hosts Lubbock Christian in the TAMIU KCB, tip-off is set for 5:30 pm CST.
