LAREDO, Texas (February 27, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International Women's Basketball team concluded their regular season on the road against No.1 Lubbock Christian on Saturday afternoon. After a close battle with the Chaps, the Dustdevils eventually took a 61-74 loss. The team's final record sits at 15-11, with a 12-6 record in Heartland Conference play. The Dustdevils will look ahead to compete in the Heartland Conference Tournament, coming in at the No. 3 seed.
Head Coach
Michelle Bento-Jackson complimented the efforts of her team by saying, "To go on the road against the #1 team is certainly a big challenge, and I am very proud of the effort and fight that our team showed today."
The Dustdevils kept the Chaps in close range through the contest. Following a five-point deficit at the end of the first quarter, TAMIU took control in the second quarter by outscoring the Chaps by 3. Down by two at the half, the Dustdevils traded scores with LCU, staying within 3 through 30 minutes of play. In the final quarter, the Chaps offensive push put them ahead of the Dustdevils for a final score of 61-74.
Senior
Jessica Prieto led the Dustdevils with 25 points, 6 boards, 3 assists, 2 blocks and a steal. Senior
Keiona Mathews followed up the offensive effort with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists.
Bento-Jackson commented on the week ahead by saying, "We will refocus and have a great week of practice in preparing for the conference tournament."
