SAN ANTONIO, Texas (April 29, 2016) - After upsetting No. 1 St. Mary's and No. 4 St. Edward's on Thursday the Dustdevil Softball team ended their 2016 Heartland Conference Tournament run with a 1-4 loss to St. Mary's in game seven of the tournament.
The Dustdevils used big innings in the first and second innings of both games on Friday to move into the winners bracket of the Heartland Conference Tournament. After falling to Lubbock Christian earlier Friday TAMIU faced No. 1 seed St. Mary's in an elimination game.
The Rattlers used runs in each of the first three innings to open a 3-0 lead over TAMIU. The Dustdevils fought back in the fourth.
Alyssa Acuna hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring
Brenda Parnin. The Dustdevils cut the lead to two before St. Mary's used a solo homerun to push the lead to three. TAMIU looked to rally, putting runners on first and second in the seventh before the final outs were recorded.
The Dustdevils will wait for the South Central Regional tournaments to end before finding out if they will earn a regional bid.
