SAN ANTONIO, Texas (January 14, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team closed out a three game road trip against St. Mary's University on Saturday. The Dustdevils were dealt a 33-69 loss, moving to 1-15 overall (1-5 Heartland Conference).
First Half:
The Dustdevils came out strong in the first 10 minutes of Saturday's game. TAMIU and STMU played to a 13-13 tie through a quarter of play. The Rattlers defense held TAMIU to six points in the second quarter, opening a 13 point lead after 20 minutes of play.
Second Half:
St. Mary's outscored TAMIU 26-5 in the third quarter of play, extending the lead to 33. The Dustdevil defense held the Rattlers to 12 points in the final 10 minutes. TAMIU put up 14 second half points, allowing STMU to extend their halftime lead in the final 20 minutes.
Jessica Alvarez led the Dustdevils offensivley, putting up 11 points, Alvarez added one assist.
Hannah Beede and
Nayiri Aslanian each put up eight points in the game. Beede and Aslanian each added eight rebounds.

Jeff Caha commented after the game, "I thought we had a good game plan and were pretty effective in the first half. All five players played so hard and really tried to do exactly what we asked of them. We need to continue with that effort for the rest of the season and move up in the standings."

The Dustdevils return home for a two-game home stand on Thursday, January 19. TAMIU hosts Newman University in the TAMIU KCB at 5:30pm CST.
