LAREDO, Texas (January 18, 2017) – The Texas A&M International University Department of Athletics announced the hiring of Dr. Kelly Higgins on Thursday, January 12. Higgins will serve as the Associate Athletic Director for External Operations.
Higgins will be responsible for developing a comprehensive athletics' fundraising and event planning program. Additionally, Higgins will be responsible for securing sport related grants, new corporate sponsorship, promotions, personal solicitations, Dustdevil Club oversight, and the development and implementation of fundraising events.
Previously, Higgins served as the Director of Athletics at Alfred State College in Alfred, New York. Higgins started serving in that capacity in 2013. During his time with the Pioneers, Higgins led a successful transition to the NCAA Division III level.
Additionally, Higgins has served as the Director of Athletics at St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH, Fort Lewis College (Durango, CO), the University of South Dakota, and the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.

Higgins has over 20 years of successful management & leadership of NCAA DI, DII, and DIII intercollegiate athletic programs and served on or chaired multiple NCAA and conference committees.

A native of Omaha, NE, and former intercollegiate student-athlete in both football and baseball, Dr. Higgins comes from a strong family background in education and athletics, and has an extensive educational background in business, sports management, as well as exercise science.
