TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
LAREDO, Texas (October 30, 2017) – The Texas A&M International University men's soccer team enters its Heartland Conference Quarterfinal match against UT Permian on Halloween, Oct. 31, on its first four-match winning streak since 2012. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Dusdevil Soccer Field.
The Dustdevils (10-4-2, 9-4-1 HC) won both of their matches last weekend extending their win streak to four clinching the fourth-seed in the conference tournament.
Claudio Arias' team has found a rhythm on offense outscoring opponents 11-4 over the past six matches TAMIU will look to keep that momentum going and punch their ticket to Friday's semifinal in Wichita Falls. UTPB (9-7-1, 8-6-0 HC) are one of the hottest teams in the conference having won six of their past seven matches after a 3-6-1 start. They came back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Lubbock Christian on Saturday after falling to West Texas A&M earlier in the week.

A LOOK AT THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Tuesday's match will be the 26
th meeting between the two programs and first in postseason action. The Dustdevils hold a 17-7-1 lead in the series including 9-1-1 at home with the lone loss coming on Sept. 5, 2007.
THE LAST TIME AROUND
UTPB defeated the Dustdevils 2-0 on Oct. 14 in Odessa as Stefan Faria and Jorge Murillo both scored for the Falcons. TAMIU outshot UTB 17-14 but were unable to get a goal past Alec Sproule.
A LOOK AT THE FALCONS
Dennis Peterson has led the Falcons into the Heartland Conference tournament for the first time in program history with a record of 9-7-1 and 8-6-0 in conference play. The Falcons rank fourth in the conference in scoring average with 1.94 goals per match while allowing 2.06 goals per match.
Brandon Lee leads the Falcons offensive as the senior forward has 14 goals and four assists for a conference-high 32 points. He scored two goals in a 3-2 victory over LCU in the season finale on Saturday. Stefan Faria ranks second on the team in goals (5), assists (30 and points (13).
Two different goalkeepers have seen action for the Falcons this season with Alec Sproule getting a majority of the starts. The senior leads the conference in total saves (71) and saves per game (5.92) while having allowed 19 goals in 12 starts. He has four shutouts including three straight earlier in October during the Falcons five-match winning streak.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Carlos Herrera has the chance to move himself up in the record books on Tuesday as the junior goaltender ranks near the top in their different single season categories. The San Leandro, Calif. Native ranks second in shutouts (6) and wins (9) while ranking third in goals against average (0.59).
The Dustdevils' nine conference wins in 2017 are the third-most in program history.
TAMIU is 0-3-1 in Heartland Conference tournament matches defeating Newman on penalty kicks in the semifinals in the 2015.
With their win over StMU on Saturday, Arias has now won 10 or matches for the first time since 2012. The Chilean has accomplished that feat in seven of his 14 years at TAMIU.
RIVERA, PERALES SCORE EARLY AGAINST THE RATTLERS
Alan Rivera and
Elias Perales scored the goals for the Dustdevils in their 2-0 victory over St. Mary's on Saturday, It was Rivera's eighth of the season and second for Perales but it was the first time all season that TAMIU scored twice in the first half. The goal total doubled the amount of goals (2) that the Dustdevils had scored in the first 45 minutes during the first 15 matches of the season.
