Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | TAMIU Sports Information - Tim Fairhead

LAREDO, Texas (November 18, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team hosted Texas A&M Kingsville in their first home game of the 2017-18 season on Saturday. The Dustdevils fell 62-65, moving to 0-4 overall.

AFTER 1: TAMIU 14 - TAMUK 16
The Dustdevils would open the game with their best offensive first quarter through three games. The Dustdevils put up 14 points. Kingsville would match the intensity, putting up 16. TAMUK would pull away by five midway through the first before TAMIU brought the game within two before the buzzer sounded.

AFTER 2: TAMIU 30 - TAMUK 34
Another high scoring quarter prevailed in the second as the teams combined for 34 points. TAMIU would take the lead after three minutes of play before TAMUK would outscore the Dustdevils 18-16 to take a 34-30 lead into the half.

AFTER 3: TAMIU 41 - TAMUK 51
The Dustdevils would open the third quarter on a 9-0 run. The 9-0 run spanned just over two minutes and allowed the Dustdevils to turn a four point deficit into a five point advantage. TAMUK would respond, finishing the quarter on a run of their own, taking a 10 point advantage into the final 10 minutes of action.

AFTER 4: TAMIU 62 - TAMUK 65
TAMIU would respond to a Javelina run to end the third with their best offensive quarter of the game in the fourth. The Dustdevils put up 21 points in the final 10 minutes while the Dustdevil defense held the Javelinas to 14 points. A Jaden Gonzales three cut the lead to just one with :53 remaining in regulation before the Javelinas would add three late points to take the game 65-62.

COACH CAHA'S THOUGHTS:
Head Coach Jeff Caha commented, "I thought we were lackadaisical from the start. I believe in us as a very strong defensive team but we have a hard time finding it for 40 minutes. Offensively, I think we have the ability to score a lot but we are consistently shooting in the high twenties or low thirties and I think that all starts with effort. We can have the greatest sets ever invented but if we don't run them hard, it makes getting open shots tough. I thought we guarded well at times but we got destroyed in the glass. That's effort. We turn around and play them at their place on Tuesday so we will see if we can improve."

DUSTDEVIL LEADERS:
Three Dustdevils put up double-digit points, including Passionate Amukamara who had her best game of the season. The Junior put up 22 points on seven shots, adding seven from the stripe. Tantashea Giger and Gonzales would add 14 and 11 respectively.
