Box Score LAREDO, Texas (November 2, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team opened a three-game homestand on Thursday night. The homestand began with a match against Newman University where the Dustdevils fell 1-3.
The 1-3 loss (17-25, 21-25, 25-22, 18-25) moves the Dustdevils to 2-22 overall and 0-10 in Heartland Conference play. The match also concluded regular season play between the Dustdevils and Jets with the Jets taking the season series 2-0.
SET 1: TAMIU 17 - NEWMAN 25
An early deficit proved too much for a Dustdevil comeback as the Jets would jump ahead early. The Dustdevils would tie the match at 10 before the Jets opened a late seven point lead. The lead would be stretched to eight before the set point was recorded.
SET 2: TAMIU 21 - NEWMAN 25
The second set was played neck and neck before Newman put together a five-point run, taking the advantage. The Jets would extend that lead to nine before TAMIU fired back with two runs accounting for nine straight points. The runs would bring TAMIU within two points of the lead before Newman ended the set up 25-21.
SET 3: TAMIU 25 - NEWMAN 22
Following the 10 minute intermission between sets, the Dustdevils would fall behind 0-6 early in the third set. Three runs of four or more points allowed the Dustdevils to get back into the set before tying the set at 21. The Dustdevils would score the final four points of the set en-route to a 25-22 third set win.
SET 4; TAMIU 18 - NEWMAN 25
Early runs in the fourth set allowed the Jets to take a commanding lead early in the fourth set. The Dustdevils would come within one point but were unable to garner the lead in the fourth set. Newman used a final four-point push to end the match at 3-1.

The Dustdevils continue play at home, hosting Heartland Conference leader, Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday, November 4. Saturday's match is set to begin at 12pm with a free kid's clinic to follow the match.
