WICHITA, Kansas (February 25, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team played their final regular season game of the 2016-17 season on Saturday. TAMIU took on Newman University, falling 46-72 . The Dustdevils move to 2-24 overall (2-14 Heartland Conference).
First Half:
The Dustdevils faced an early deficit in Saturday's game. Newman would score the first basket of the game and not return the lead for 10 minutes, holding the Dustdevils to 12 first quarter points. TAMIU put up 13 points in the second quarter but Newman stretched the lead to 12 after putting up 17. At the half, TAMIU trailed 25-37.
Second Half:
A low scoring third quarter allowed Newman to stretch the lead to 16 as the Jets held TAMIU to just nine points. The final 10 minutes of action saw the Dustdevils lose ground, allowing 22 points, putting up just 12. When the final buzzer sounded, the Dustdevils were defeated 46-72.
Joanna Perez finished with 12 points in the loss.
Rosebrooke Hunt finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Hannah Beede added eight points on the afternoon.
Playoff Update:
With an Oklahoma Panhandle State loss to St. Mary's, TAMIU earns the #8 seed in the Heartland Conference tournament. The tournament will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma March 2-4, 2017.

Jeff Caha commented, "Our effort really picked up today. I thought our three Seniors really tried to play as hard as possible. We have a quick turnaround with playing St. Edward's on Thursday and now it's lose and done so we will see how we respond."
