LAREDO, Texas (April 21, 2017) – The Texas A&M International University Baseball team hosted St. Edward's for a doubleheader at Uni-trade Stadium on Friday. TAMIU was dealt a 4-15 loss in game one and a 2-4 loss in game two. TAMIU moves to 10-27 overall (4-13 Heartland Conference).
Game 1: TAMIU 4 – SEU 15
After falling behind by three runs, TAMIU picked up a pair of runs in the second inning.
Alex Cabezas drove in a pair of runs with a 2 RBI single to left field.
Mario Ramirez and
Erasmo Gonzalez Jr. came around to score on the single.
The Hilltoppers put up 11 unanswered runs before TAMIU plated a run in the sixth.
Cabezas picked up his third RBI of the game with a sixth inning single, scoring Gonzalez Jr.
The Dustdevils added a fourth run in the seventh after
William Mora scored on a Hilltopper error. Mora went 4-4 at the plate despite the loss.
Devon Torres took the loss in game one. Erik Garay tossed two and a third before being relieved by
Hugo Mendiola who tossed two innings, allowing just one hit.
Game 2: TAMIU - SEU
A pitching duel broke out in game two as the teams combined for just three runs through six innings.
After falling behind two runs, TAMIU pushed their first run across the plate in the sixth inning. Ramirez would score the run on a Hilltopper error.
SEU picked up a pair of runs in the eighth, extending the lead to 4-1.
The Dustdevils picked cut the lead to two in the eighth after
Adrian Castillo drove in Ramirez on a groundout.
Osvaldo Raya tossed seven and two thirds innings on the mound, striking out a pair.
Eleazar Rojas relived Raya in the eighth, tossing a scoreless inning and a third on the bump.

TAMIU closes out the series at Uni-trade Stadium on Saturday. Saturday is Military Appreciation day with a Brisket cookout benefiting the TAMIU Student Veterans. First pitch is slated for 1pm with festivities beginning at 12pm.
