LAREDO, Texas (May 6 2017) – The Texas A&M International University Baseball team closed out the 2017 Regular Season in matchup with Newman University on Saturday. The Dustdevils fell 0-3, moving to 12-32 overall (6-18 Heartland Conference).
Nine Dustdevils were honored before Saturday's game in a special Senior Day presentation.
The Jets would strike first in the final Regular Season game for both teams. Newman plated a run in the first to take a 1-0 lead.
NU would add two runs in the fifth to open a 3-0 lead.
The Newman pitching staff would hold TAMIU to just one hit through eight innings before
William Mora sent a single through the middle in the ninth.
Osvaldo Raya got the nod on the mound, tossing seven and a third on the mound. Raya would strike out five Jets in the loss, breaking the All-Time Career Strikeout record, previously set at 123. Raya now holds sole possession of the record with 127. Fellow Senior,
Nick Perales tossed the final inning and a third. Perales did not allow a hit, striking out two Jets.
