FORT SMITH, Ark. - Texas A&M International (2-15, 0-3 HC) fell in straight sets (7-25, 23-25, 14-25) on Thursday against Arkansas-Fort Smith (13-7, 3-0 HC).
The Lions set the tone for the match early as started the first set on a 17-0 run. They ended up taking the set 24-7.
The second set saw the Dustdevils brush off the off balance start an open with a 3-2 lead. The early going of the frame was a tightly contested affair that saw four lead changes and four ties. TAMIU took its largest lead of the half at 15-12. However, UAFS would race back to the match and keep things within one point. The looked to be in a position to win the set after retaking the lead 23-22, part of a 3-0 run. Unfortunately, the Lions closed the set on a 3-0 run of their own to take the frame 25-23.
UAFS carried that late set momentum in the third and final set, starting on a 6-1 run. They would push their lead out to 14-4 at one point, and eventually to the set and the match 25-14.
The Dustdevils will continue their road trip on Saturday, Oct. 6 as they travel to Wichita, Kan. to face off against Newman.
