LAREDO, Texas -Â After leading for three and half quarters, Texas A&M International women's basketball (0-2) couldn't hang on and fell 62-57 to Black Hills State (2-0) on Saturday.
Alliyah Bryant paced the Dustdevils with 14 points and four steals. Tantashea Giger posted 12 points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds. Christine Ortega contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.
TAMIU was dominant in the first half, as they never trailed in the half after taking a 4-2 lead midway through the first quarter. They would extend their lead to the its largest of the half at 30-20 with 20 seconds remaining in the second quarter. They carried a 30-22 lead into the intermission.
The Dustdevils used their momentum in the second half to continued their dominance, and pushed the lead to its largest of the game at 42-28 just three minutes into the period. However, the Yellow Jackets slowly began to chip away at the lead and were able to pull within five points at 45-40 to close out the third quarter.Â
TAMIU fought back and extended their advantage to 50-42 early in the fourth quarter. BHSU kept battling and trimming the lead, eventually taking their first lead since the opening moments of the game at 51-50 with just of four minutes left. From there, the Yellow Jackets stifled the Dustdevil offense and captured the victory 62-57.Â
TAMIU will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 16 as they travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to face off against Westminster College.
