Dustdevils Close Out Road Trip with Win Over Dixie State

SALT LAKE CITY - Texas A&M International (1-1-1) scored three unanswered goals to capture its first win of the 2018 campaign 3-1 against Dixie State (2-2) on Saturday.

Both squads battled back-and-forth early in the match, but the Trailblazers broke the seal as Moises Medina fired a shot in from 18-yards out of a misdirected header from Gustavo Ortega to take a1-0 lead in the 38th minute.

However, the Dustdevils countered three minutes later on a header from junior David Martinez off a free kick from junior Romarin Ngapouth. 

TAMIU took its first lead in the 65th minute as Rafael Montabes headed in a goal from 12-yards out off a pass from Johan Portales to go up 2-1. 

The game winning goal came in the 78th minute as Martinez scored on a penalty kick pushing the lead to 3-1.

The Dustdevils made 23 shots, with six on goal, compared to DSU with 10 shots, three on goal. Senior Carlos Herrera finished with two saves.

TAMIU will return to Laredo on Thursday, Sept. 13 as they open the home slate and begin Heartland Conference play against St. Edward's at 7 pm.
