LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International (1-10) closed out the opening homestand with a three-set loss (28-26, 25-20, 25-13) to Western New Mexico (4-6) on Saturday.
Freshman Allison Wade paced the squad with 10 kills in addition to eight digs, and three blocks. Freshman Maison Kosse logged a team-high 19 assists with six digs. Freshman Lacy Asdourian led the team with nine digs.
The opening set was a battle of point runs between the two teams. The Dustdevils started things with 6-2 run, but the Mustangs countered with a five-point run to take the lead 7-6. The remainder of the set continued to be a back-and-forth affair with six total lead change. WNMU eventually came out on top with the 28-26 decision.Â
In the second set, TAMIU took the early lead with a 6-2 advantage, but it would be short lived as the Mustangs roared back to take a 7-6 lead. After that, there were several back-and-forth points, but WNMU put the lead away at 14-13 and eventually took a 25-20 decision.
The third and final set was all Mustangs, as they never trailed after taking a 2-1 lead. At its height, WNMU held a 17-7 advantage over the Dustdevils, and went on to take the set and match with a 25-13 decision.
TAMIU will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 14 as they travel to Carrollton, Texas to compete in the Heartland Conference Preseason Tournament.
