OKLAHOMA CITY  – Texas A&M International University women's basketball (0-14, 0-2 Heartland Conference) team suffered a 105-50 Heartland Conference road setback Thursday evening to the Oklahoma Christian University Eagles (8-8, 1-2 Heartland Conference). The loss moves the Dustdevils to 1-6 against the Eagles in their last seven matchups dating back to the 2015-16 season. Â
At the beginning of the game, TAMIU and Oklahoma Christian traded baskets but a three-point play by Ciera Walker gave the Dustdevils an 8-7 lead with 6:19 remaining in the opening quarter. Texas A&M International put together a 6-3 scoring run in under two minutes that was capped off when Tacoya Allen found Troi Lucas for a three-pointer to put the Dustdevils in front by two (14-12) with 2:28 left in the first stanza.
Following the basket by Lucas, the Eagles compiled a 12-4 run that featured seven points by Addy Clift, including five free throws, to close out the first quarter and give the Dustdevils a six point deficit (24-18). The 18 points scored by TAMIU is a season high in an opening quarter.
Oklahoma Christian picked up the intensity as they went on a 34-4 scoring outburst in the second quarter to send a 58-22 game into intermission.
The Eagles' lead swelled to as many as 58 (96-38) with 5:56 remaining in the game. Â
Clift finished with a game-high 26 points (7-of-13 FG, 11-11 FT) along with six assists and five rebounds. Â
Walker led the way for the Dustdevils by scoring a season-high 15 points (6-of-10 FG) while grabbing a game-high six offensive rebounds and a pair of steals.
In the end, Texas A&M International shot 24.7 percent (18-of-73) from the field, 11.5 percent (3-of-26) from three-point range and 84.6 percent (11-of-13) from the free-throw line while the Eagles shot 53.5 percent (38-of-71) from the floor, 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from beyond the arc and 90.9 percent (20-of-22) from the charity stripe. Â Oklahoma Christian held the advantage in rebounds (53-36), steals (16-7), assists (27-7) and blocks (1-0) while the Dustdevils led the way in offensive rebounds (18-15) and scored 21 second-chance points.
The Dustdevils continue Heartland Conference road action on Saturday, January 19 as they travel to Wichita, Kansas to face off against Newman University (11-5, 2-0 Heartland Conference) at 1 p.m.
