Box Score DENTON, Texas -Â Texas A&M International volleyball (3-15, 0-6 LSC) fell 3-1 (26-28, 25-23, 11-25, 13-25) on the road to Texas Woman's (11-10, 3-3 LSC) on Friday.
Sophomore Mackenzie Catalina led the Dustdevils with a new career high of 20 kills to go along with six digs and an assist. Senior Annie Deininger posted 11 kills with two digs and an assist. Sophomore Maison Kosse logged 30 assists, eight digs and a kill. Senior Hannah Semon contributed 13 digs with two service aces and two assists.
The first set began tight with both teams trading points early. TWU broke away on a 6-0 run to take a 9-3 lead. TAMIU battled back to pull within three points at 13-10. The Pioneers answered with another 6-2 run to push out to an 18-12 advantage. With TWU sitting on set point at 24-21, the Dustdevils got three straight points to tie things at 24-24. Things got close again as the teams traded points back and forth, until the Pioneers notched two straight points to take the set 28-26.
The second set began much like the first with both teams keeping things close. In fact, neither team could get more than a three-point advantage through most of the set. With thing tied 23-23, TAMIU won the frame with two straight kills for a 25-23 decision.
Both teams kept the third set close early again, with six ties. However, the Pioneers began to pull away with an 13-2 run to take a 21-9 lead. TWU then took four of the next six points to claim the set 25-11.
The Pioneers broke out to an early 7-3 lead in the fourth set. They then proceed to rattle off an 11-4 run, extending their advantage to 18-7. TAMIU tried their best to cut into the deficit, trimming the lead to 19-12. TWU closed out the match on a 6-1 run for a 25-13 victory.
The Dustdevils will stay on the road as they travel to Wichita Falls, Texas on Saturday for a matchup against Midwestern State.Â
