LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University women's soccer (2-13-2, 1-10-2 LSC) fell to the Texas Woman's Pioneers (14-4-0, 10-3-0 LSC) a 2-0 in a Lone Star Conference home matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The Dustdevils fired the first shot of the match when Samantha Ruiz fired a shot that got blocked in the third minute of play.
In the 17th minute, Maddison Schofield took a shot that was headed for the bottom left side of the net but was rejected by Pioneer goalkeeper, Daniela Marin to continue the scoreless match.
The Pioneers broke the scoring ice at the 19:51 mark as Jaycee Fuller blasted a shot that found the top left side of the net.
Erica Anderson tested Dustdevil goalkeeper Ashley Barrientos in the 44th minute, but Barrientos rejected the shot that was heading towards the bottom right side of the net. The save sent the 1-0 match into intermission.
TWU's Maddy Harper took the first three shots of the second half but all of them were off target.
In the 73rd minute, Barrientos turned away back-to-back shots by Lexi D'Abrosca and Kaylee Rekieta, repectively.
At the 85:00 mark, Pioneer Abigail Martinez netted the final goal to secure the 2-0 victory.
In the 89th minute, Maddison Schofield registered her 41st shot of the season. The shot moved her up to sixth in TAMIU history in shots in a season. She is now tied with Sol Medina (2014) and Mary Smith (2003).
Barrientos made four saves in defeat while Marin stopped a trio of shots to secure the shutout for the Pioneers.
TWU held the advantage in shots (19-5), shots on goal (6-3) and corner kicks (5-0).
