LAREDO, Texas -Â Texas A&M International University softball (5-9) dropped both home decisions to Texas A&M University-Kingsville (12-0) on Wednesday afternoon. The last time the Dustdevils took down the Javelinas was on February 9, 2016.
Game 1: Texas A&M International 4, Texas A&M-Kingsville 3 (9 Inn.)
The Dustdevils jumped out to a strong start on a single by Shelby Edwards (1-for-2, RBI, BB) off of Javelina starter Saidi Castillo (W, 8-0: 9 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K) plated home Maya Paul for the game's first run. Â
In the bottom of the third inning, TAMIU continued to put runs on the board thanks to a two-run double by Morgan Chavarria (1-for-4, 2 RBI) that scored Maddison Schofield (2-for-4, R) and Lindsey Smith to put the Dustdevils up three runs (3-0).
TAMIU starter Jenika Lombrana (L, 2-3: 9 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 8 K) did not surrender a run until Anastasia Leibas (1-for-3, HR) hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth frame that cut the Texas A&M Kingsville deficit to a pair of runs (3-1).
In the road half of the sixth inning, Veronica Chavez (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBI, BB, R) hit a two-run home run to knot the game at three runs apiece to ultimately send the game into extra innings.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Javelinas scored the game-winning run on an RBI single by Loren Kelly that secured the 4-3 final.
Game 2: Texas A&M-Kingsville 6, Texas A&M International 1
In the first two innings Breanna Smith (W, 4-0: 7 IP, 4 H, ER, 2 BB, 7 K) and
Melanie Lint (L, 1-3: 7 IP, 11 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, K) were locked in a pitcher's duel and held both teams scoreless.

The Javelinas tallied two runs that pushed them ahead 2-0 in the top of the third inning.
In the following inning, Texas A&M-Kingsville piled on more runs including an RBI double by Roxy Chapa to cap off a three-run frame that gave the Javelinas a five-run advantage (5-0).
In the bottom of the last inning,
Denise Longoria broke the scoring ice for the Dustdevils on a run scoring single that plated home
Jenelle Rodriguez however, it would be the final run of the game to settle the 6-1 victory for the Javelinas.
The Dustdevils travel to Stephenville, Texas on Tuesday, February 19 for a non-conference doubleheader against Tarleton State University (9-1) at 1 p.m. Â Â Â
