LAREDO, Texas -Â Sophomore Tom Higgins had a career night as he led Texas A&M International men's basketball (2-10, 0-6 LSC) as they came up short against DBU (11-1, 5-1 LSC) in a 93-70 decision, after outscoring the Patriots 44-39 in the second half, on Thursday.
The Te Awamutu, Texas native led all scorers with a career-high 20 points with three rebounds, three steals and an assist. Senior Dominic Jackson logged 14 points with six rebounds, four assists and a steal. Senior Caleb Highley finished just two points shy of a double-double with eight points and 12 rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal.
The Dustdevils fell in a sizable hole out the gate with the Patriots opening on a 28-5 run. DBU pushed their advantage out to 49-18, its largest in the period, with 4:12 remaining in the half. They carried a 54-26 lead into the intermission.
In the second half, the Patriots continued to roll taking their largest lead of the game at 75-38 with 11 minutes left. From that point, the Dustdevils began to fight back and started cutting into the deficit. They managed to cut the lead to 88-62 with just two minutes left. They closed out the game on an 8-2 run, with DBU taking a 93-70 victory.
TAMIU will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 4 as they travel Stephenville, Texas for a matchup against Tarleton.
