LAREDO, Texas -Â Texas A&M International men's basketball (2-12, 0-8 LSC) fell to Texas A&M-Commerce (10-4, 6-2 LSC) in a 78-65 decision on Thursday.
Sophomore Tom Higgins led the Dustdevils with a double-double of 17 points and a career-high 17 rebounds as well as two assists and two steals. Senior Caleb Highley also finished with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds to go along with an assist and a block. Senior Dominic Jackson contributed 10 points with three steals and two rebounds.
Things were tight as the game started with both teams trading leads early. However, the Lions began to rain down three pointers and jumped out to an early 16-4 lead. The Dustdevils tried to trim the deficit, but each time A&M-Commerce had an answer for the comeback. They eventually took a 35-22 lead into the break.
The Lions kept their momentum rolling after the intermission and ran out to their largest lead of the game at 59-34 with just over 11 minutes left. From there, TAMIU slowly began to chip away at the lead, and managed to cut it all the down to 68-59 with less than three minutes remaining. Unfortunately, that would be as close as they got as A&M-Commerce eventually took the 78-65 victory.
The Dustdevils will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 11 as they welcome UT Tyler for another Lone Star Conference matchup.
