The Mustangs began to pull away with a 19-8 run to take a 48-29 lead with 1:44 left in the half. MSU took a 48-34 advantage into the intermission.

The Mustangs looked like they may continue to roll as they opened the second half on a 11-2 run to take their largest lead of the game at 59-38 just three minutes into the period. However, TAMIU slowly began to cut into the deficit and managed to take their first lead since the opening moments of the game at 64-63 with five minutes left. Unfortunately, the Dustdevils couldn't hang on as MSU closed out the game on an 8-0 run to take the 71-67 victory.
