LUBBOCK, Texas -Â Texas A&M International men's basketball (3-22, 1-18 LSC) dropped a 74-60 decision to Lubbock Christian (16-8, 13-6 LSC) on Thursday.
Three Dustdevils finished in double digits on the night. Senior Caleb Higley led the squad with 15 points as well as three rebounds, two blocks and an assist. Freshman Jorge Meijas-Sanchez logged 14 points with three rebounds, an assist and a steal. Junior Matija Novkovic contributed 11 points in addition to three rebounds and three assists.
The Chaps were on fire out of the gate as they opened on a 12-2 run. TAMIU quickly found its footing though and answered back with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 12-10. LCU didn't stagger though as they responded by taking their largest lead of the half at 36-19, thanks to a 24-6 run. The Dustdevils managed to trim the deficit in the later moments of the period, giving the Chaps a 36-25 lead going into the intermission.
TAMIU went back to work cutting LCU's advantage after the break and managed to pull within six points at 44-38 just five minutes into the second half. They were able to hold the Chaps in check for the next several minutes and eventually got within four points at 59-55 with four minutes left. Unfortunately, the Dustdevils were unable to complete the comeback, as LCU extended their lead back out in the final minutes and took a 74-60 victory.
TAMIU will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 22 as they travel to San Angelo, Texas for a matchup against Angelo State in the regular season road finale.
