LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International men's basketball (3-19, 1-15 LSC) fell to No. 8 St. Edward's (20-2, 13-2 LSC) in a 86-59 decision on Thursday.
Senior Caleb Highley led the Dustdevils with 24 points, two points shy of his season-high, as well as eight rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal. Freshman Jorge Meijas-Sanchez logged 10 points with a rebound, an assist and a steal.
The Hilltoppers tried to get up early, taking a 8-2 run to start the game. However, TAMIU hung close eventually tying things at 9-9. Things remained close late into the period. Things began to slip away as SEU put together a 25-5 run to close out the half and take a 40-20 lead into the break.
The second half was all Hilltoppers, as they pushed out to their first 30-point lead just two and half minutes into the period at 50-20. They continued to roll and took their largest lead of the game at 73-30 with 10:55 left. TAMIU showed some fight down the stretch as they were able to claw back within 25 points at 84-59. SEU eventually took the win 86-59.
The Dustdevils will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 8 as they play host to St. Mary's.
