LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International women's basketball celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday in victorious fashion, defeating Saint Martin's 91-82.
The Dustdevils (3-0, 0-0 LSC) were lights out over the first two quarters, as they held a 28-23 lead after one quarter and a 52-39 lead at the half.
TAMIU shot a blistering 63% from the floor in the first half, as well as 5-for-10 from three. On the other end, the Saints (5-1, 0-0 GNAC) were just a shade under 50% at 15-for-31 and just 2-for-8 from deep.
Trailing by 15 in the third, Saint Martin's sparked to cut the deficit to just six at 55-49, but the Dustdevils from that point reeled of 15 of the final 22 points to reopen a 14-point lead after three.
In the fourth, the Saints did all they could to get back in the game, but 26 points wasn't enough as the Dustdevils countered with 21 points of their own.
TAMIU finished the game shooting 61.5% (32-for-52) from the floor, 42.9% from three (6-for-14) and 80.8% from the free throw line (20-for-25).
Saint Martin's on the other end shot 43.3% (26-for-60) from the field, only 3-for-13 from three and were 27-for-32 from the charity stripe.
The Dustdevils four players in double figures, led by sophomore
Rai Brown who had 27 points on 11-for-18 from the field, six rebounds and five assists.
Freshman
Evelyn Quiroz followed with 17 points and five assists, while ssophomore
Emily Swiercz had 16.
Senior
Eva Langton had an all-around great game, with a final line of 16 points, six rebounds, nine assists, two steals and a block.
TAMIU has a short break as the holiday weekend continues, as the Dustdevils welcome Western Oregon to town, tomorrow, Nov. 26. Tip-off from the TAMIU KCB is slated for 4 p.m.
