LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International men's basketball had its winning streak snapped in a heartbreaking 74-71 last second loss to #12 Angelo State.

The Dustdevils (6-1, 0-0 LSC) welcomed the Rams (7-0, 0-0 LSC) to Laredo to square-off in a non-conference clash and were toe-to-toe with their nationally ranked opponent.

The first half was even over the first 13:24 as the score stood at 24-24 and the largest lead to that point was Angelo State's 13-9 edge.

After a near two-minute stalemate when tied at 24, TAMIU took the lead at 4:52 after two free throws by senior
Greg Bowie II and went on a total run of 8-0 to take a 32-24 lead with 3:49 remaining in the half.

The Dustdevils would hold the lead the remainder of the half to lead 38-33 at the break.

Angelo State came out on fire in the second half, using a 12-2 run to take a 45-40 lead over the first 4:18.

While the Ram lead grew to seven (50-43) with 13:13 left, TAMIU never backed down.

The Dustdevils countered over the next five-plus minutes with a 17-3 run to take a 60-53 lead with 7:44 remaining.

Angelo State countered late in the half from 3:21-2:28 with a 7-0 run to take a 69-66 lead after trailing 66-62.

Bowie II came up with a huge three-pointer with 1:14 to tie the game 69-69 and the Rams regained the lead on two free-throws.

Down by two, TAMIU got to the free-throw line and missed both, but junior
Jermaine Drewey stripped the ball at half-court and called timeout to give the Dustdevils a chance with 23.8 remaining.

TAMIU took advantage of the opportunity when freshman
Journee Phillips fought through three Rams to collect an offensive rebound on an initial Dustdevil miss and laid it in to tie the game 71-71 with 11.6 left.

On the ensuing possession, Angelo State got an answered prayer on the road, hitting a fall away, three-pointer with 0.1 second remaining to seal the victory.

On the night, the Dustdevils shot 45.5% (25-for-55) and 41.2% (7-for-17) from deep. TAMIU from the charity stripe made 14 of 19 attempts.

The Rams finished the game shooting 47% from the floor and 41% from three.

Three Dustdevils finished in double figures, with Bowie II leading the way with 20 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

Drewey followed with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals, while Phillips added 10 points as well.

TAMIU must put the heartbreaking first loss behind them quickly as they welcome Lone Star Conference for UT Permian Basin to Laredo on Saturday, Dec. 4. Tip-off for the non-conference matchup is slated for 3 p.m.
